Voices & Visions: a co-designed newsletter showcasing stories, art and connection in an inpatient mental health unit

Abstract

The SECU Newsletter is a key initiative that emerged directly from a consumer suggesting the development of a ward newsletter as a tool to share experiences, express creativity and communicate information within the unit. Within the Secure Extended Care Unit (SECU), where the average length of stay is approximately eighteen months, there is a unique opportunity to support identiy, roles and community. Key aims for the newsletter included increasing consumer-led engagement, building a sense of community and creating more opportunities for self-expression.
