dc.description.abstract | Background: 2024 marks 20 years since the inception of the Melbourne Interventional Group (MIG)-a large collaborative multi-centre registry of patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention across multiple Victorian hospitals. Progress: To date, MIG has recorded 48,606 procedures, reporting demographic, procedural, and follow-up data (in-hospital, 30-day and 12-month) with additional long term outcome data made possible with linkage to the National Death Index (NDI). Over this period, the MIG cohort had a mean age of 64.6+/-12 years, 76.4% male and 25.3% diabetics. Overall mortality rates were 2.5% in-hospital, 2.8% at 30-day and 3.7% at 12 months. The long-term mortality rate was 19.4% (mean follow of 7.7+/-3.1 years). These two decades of standardised analysis have culminated in the publication of 92 papers in peer reviewed journals and over 450 presentations at national and international scientific meetings. The registry has provided collaboration between cardiologists, cardiology trainees and research nurses with extension to health care networks such as the Monash University CCRET and the Asia Pacific Evaluation of Cardiovascular Therapies (ASPECT) registry. The development and success of this MIG Registry contributed to the establishment of the Victorian Cardiac Outcomes Registry (VCOR), which continues to report trends in the quality of patient cardiac care. Conclusion(s): In this dynamic field of coronary intervention, MIG highlights the importance of teamwork, collegiality and acknowledges all the cardiac patients who have made this possible. Key trends in interventional practice and changes in treatment strategies over time will be presented.Copyright © 2024 | - |
