Abstract: Many NICUs around the world use a family-centred care (FCC) approach to improve family involvement in infant care. FCC helps reduce stress, separation, and changes in roles for families, and promotes teamwork between healthcare providers and families. Key FCC principles include shared responsibility, respect for the family's role, open communication, and joint decision-making. Despite the recognised benefits of FCC, barriers to its implementation persist, with the adoption of FCC slower in NICUs than general hospital settings.
