Abstract: Women's mental health in pregnancy forms the platform for their developing relationship with their unborn child and the basis for the healthy first year of that child's life within their family. Major mental illness in pregnancy, as well as personality factors and social disadvantage, can have a substantial adverse impact on this developmental trajectory. In this presentation, I will discuss the major illnesses that require psychiatric supervision and support in pregnancy, along with treatment options and support systems for these most vulnerable women.
